Book # 2: Definitions

So....here they are! Did you get them right?

1. moeity: an indefinite portion, part, or share.

2. barouche: a four-wheeled carriage with a high front seat outside for the driver, facing seats inside for two couples, and a calash top over the back seat.

3. pique: to affect with sharp irritation and resentment

4. chagrin: to vex by disappointment or humiliation

5. demesne: land belonging to and adjoining a manor house; estate.

6. cavil: o raise irritating and trivial objections; find fault with unnecessarily

7. insipid: without distinctive, interesting, or stimulating qualities; vapid

8. raillery: good-humored ridicule; banter.

9. curricle: a light, two-wheeled, open carriage drawn by two horses abreast.

10. nabob: any very wealthy, influential, or powerful person.

11. mohr: A West African gazelle

12. palanquin: A covered litter carried on poles on the shoulders of four or more bearers, formerly used in eastern Asia.
